We had decided to stay in Shenzhen during the Chinese New Year of 2025. These days I noticed that there were fewer people on the streets and fewer cars on the roads than usual. I thought it was because Shenzhen is an immigrant city with very few locals, many people had gone back to their hometowns.
So most of the people who live and work here speak Mandarin more than others like Cantonese, which is spoken by people from Guangdong. Even though Shenzhen is located in Guangdong province. This is one of the reasons why I love the city, because you will not feel any discrimination.
If you hear people speaking Cantonese on the street or in supermarkets, they might be the consumers from Hong Kong, which is close to Shenzhen city. There are a lot of people from Hong Kong who like to consume here more than before in recent years, I don't know why.
